- 7. Not only is the film worthy of seeing because of itswide acclaim, it is also filed with useful reminders ofthe struggles one can face to communicate clearly. 7 Golden Globe Awards nominations Last night I saw the film and walked away with these 5 presentation lessons.
- 8. 1. HAVE FAITH IN YOUR VOICE
- 9. As a child Bertie was teased and ignored bythe powerful men in his family. His stammer onlybecame worse as he believed he didn’t have a voice.
- 10. At first many presenters struggle to get their words out.Just as the throne was thrust upon Bertie you toowill have your moment to step up.
- 11. At first many presenters struggle to get their words out.Just as the throne was thrust upon Bertie you toowill have your moment to step up.The question is: will you have faith in yourself and inwhat you are saying?
- 12. 2. ADMIT YOU NEED HELP
- 13. Bertie was willing to admit he had a problem. His success was largely due to one man:a self-taught Australian speech therapist. He could have been consumed by his ego, but insteadwas open to the support of his wife Elizabeth and tobeing coached by Lionel who helped him conquer hisspeech impediment, turning him into a great monarch.
- 14. We are all flawed. No one can become a great presenter bythemselves. One needs to let go of theirego, reach out, and be open to feedback. You’re only as great as the people yousurround yourself with.Find your own Lionel and Elizabeth.
- 15. 3. PUT THE HOURS IN
- 16. At first Bertie was convinced hisstammer couldn’t be fixed. It wasn’t until he let go of his ego andwas willing to accept the exercisesfrom Lionel that he was able to change.
- 17. There’s no substitute for hard work.
- 18. There’s no substitute for hard work. You have to roll up your sleeves and put the hours in to getto where you want to be, even if you’re the King of England.
- 19. 4. BECOME AN EXPERT FROM EXPERIENCE
- 20. Lionel believed that getting to the heart of hispsychological problem could help cure the King.
- 21. He knew this, not from his academiccredentials (he had none), but rather fromthe methods he studied and applied basedon what he found worked for over 30 years. His experience made him an expert.
- 22. 5. BROADCAST A TRUE VERSION OF YOURSELF
- 23. Bertie was not only required to speak to England, but to the 58 countries in the Commonwealth.
- 24. Bertie was not only required to speak to England, but to the 58 countries in the Commonwealth. The advent of live radio meant that he couldn’tbe bailed out with his remarks being recordedand edited as in previous years.
- 25. King George VI was loved by his people because hisstammer humanized him.He was a hero because of his imperfections.Be genuine and don’t be afraid of your flaws, they arewhat makes you human.
- 26. The King’s Speech is an inspiring film worthy ofthe Oscar buzz it is receiving.Just as you will have your own presentationstruggles there will be people along the way tohelp you through the hard work.
- 27. With this experience you too will find your own voice.
- 28. Thank you.Jesse Desjardinstwitter.com/jessedeeslideshare.net/jessedee
